Region Entering Red at Midnight Tonight

With our region entering the Red level of recovery tonight, here is a summary of the current guidelines and restrictions under Red:

BUBBLES: A single household bubbe that includes only the people you live with. This can be extended to include one family member or individual who needs support (e.g. someone who lives alone).

MASKS: Masks are mandatory in all indoor public places. Masks are required in outdoor public spaces when physical distancing of 2 metres cannot be maintained.

DRIVING/CARPOOLING: Driving with members of your single household bubble is permitted and masks are not required. Carpooling with others outside your bubble for work, school, medical appointments, or to access essential services such as groceries is permitted with continuous mask wearing and social distancing (e.g., those outside your bubble should sit in the back seat if possible). Face masks are required in drive-thrus for any occupant who will be within 2 metres of the drive-thru window.

GATHERINGS: No indoor gatherings beyond your single household bubble are permitted. Outdoor gatherings of 5 people or less with masks and 2 metres of physical distancing are allowed.

TRAVEL: Necessary travel only is recommended in and out of Red level zones, however, people can continue to travel within the province for work, school, essential errands and medical appointments. Travel into the province continues to be limited only for work and essential medical purposes.

RELIGIOUS SERVICES: Outdoor (drive-in) only.

NON-URGENT/ELECTIVE MEDICAL PROCEDURES AND SURGERIES: Postponed.

NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES: Gyms, spas, barber shops, and other businesses involving close contact are closed. Recreational businesses (e.g., casinos, cinemas, bingo halls) are closed. Retail stores can operate under a COVID-19 operational plan.

Restaurants: Drive-thru, takeout, and delivery only.

SCHOOLS: Daycares can operate with enhanced measures. K-12 schools remain open with enhanced health and safety measures (see the link below for a full list). If a positive case of COVID-19 is confirmed at a school in the Red level, the school will be closed for a minimum of three days to allow for contact tracing. The school would also become a testing site for school staff. Post-secondary education can continue to operate in-person for all practical programs but only virtually in areas where it is possible.
